Darlington World Heritage Site

Walk among intact 19th-century convict ruins and free-roaming wildlife at this UNESCO World Heritage probation station.

Established in 1825, Darlington is one of 11 Australian convict sites recognized by UNESCO. Today, the settlement blends human history with nature. Visitors explore the remaining brick structures on foot, as no cars are permitted on the island.

You will likely share the trails with native wildlife. Healthy Tasmanian devils were introduced here in 2012, and wild wombats graze openly on the historic lawns. Remember that feeding or touching the animals is strictly prohibited.
